Encouraging NTRA members and residents to get involved in Town Government

Esteemed NTRA members and neighbors.

We’re writing to encourage our Northern Tuxedo residents to consider a deeper engagement in how our town is governed and managed. In this week’s Photo News, NTRA President and Tuxedo Town Board member, Kenneth English, appeals to Tuxedo residents to get involved.

There are vacant seats on each of three important boards, The Planning Board, the Architecture Review Board, and the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Currently there are 14 standing members. Below is a breakdown that shows the district in Tuxedo where the members reside, the political party affiliation, and the gender breakdown.

It’s our view that the make-up of these boards does not reflect the diversity of Tuxedo residents. We’re encouraging our members and neighbors here in Northern Tuxedo to consider applying for these positions. The average time commitment is less than two hours per month. These boards are responsible for major decisions related to Tuxedo Farms, zoning of properties, what commercial structures should look like, etc.  Northern Tuxedo still faces development challenges at the Ren Faire site, along the Route 17 corridor, along Warwick Brook Road, and in the Arden area.

The window for applying for these positions is now. Interviews are expected to be held in April. Go to the Town Website to read the Job Descriptions.

Town Council members, Ken English and Michele Lindsay, are seeking support at the Town Board meetings from our residents. Your attendance at Town Board meetings, held on the second and fourth Monday evenings of each month, at 7:00pm, at Tuxedo Town Hall, will make a difference. The next meeting will be Monday, April 9th, at 7:00pm.

Information regarding our Spring membership meeting will be coming soon. We expect to hold that meeting on a Thursday evening in Mid-may. We look forward to regrouping and recruiting new members.

Appointee for Town Board Position and a few, more pleasant items

Hi all. Here’s a few items for your consideration.

Closed-Door Politics at Work Again

I just wanted to let everyone know about a special Town Board Meeting that is to be held Monday, June 29 at 7pm at the Town Hall.

The only item on the agenda is to enter into executive session to interview possible appointee to the Town Board.

None of the individuals that I know have expressed interest in running in November have been called in for an interview, and the way the resolution is written, it seems THEY ARE ONLY INTERVIEWING ONE CANDIDATE. I have heard a rumor that the individual is the wife of the planning board chair. If this is the case, two individuals on both the Planning Board and the Town Board will have spouses serving on the other board, and there will again be no representation from the northern part of town anywhere.

That doesn’t exactly sound like a fair process to me.

Please attend this meeting to express your frustration at the extremely closed-door administration which we still seem to be dealing with, despite many promises of transparency, openness, and inclusion.
