NTRA meeting this Thursday, October 26th, 7:00pm, at Tuxedo Town Hall

Esteemed Northern Tuxedo Neighbors,

The NTRA Executive Committee will chair the next membership meeting, to be held at the Tuxedo Town Hall, 1 Temple Drive, Tuxedo, Thursday evening, October 26th, beginning at 7:00pm.

NTRA is an organization intended to build community, advocate for Northern Tuxedo Issues, build relationships with town officials, and organize social events to help neighbors get to know each other,

We’ve invited our new Chief of Police, Arthur Abbott, to come and dialogue with us. We also invited David Maikisch, our Building Inspector, who will talk with us about concerns on Bramertown Road raised by members at our previous meeting with Mike Rost. If you have any points you’d like our guests to respond to, please send us your questions so that our speakers will be prepared to answer them. We want them to feel welcome and connected to our organization.

Additionally, Town Board member Michele Lindsay will provide an update on important issues.

We need to be committed to Northern Tuxedo community concerns. It’s important that we demonstrate unity as a group, a willingness to work with town officials, and a welcoming demeanor.

It’s also time for our annual Executive Committee elections to be held. The current members, Ken English, Claudia Baktiary, and Bahar Ertac are willing to continue to serve if acceptable to the membership. The Vice President’s position is vacant and we are hoping to encourage a member to join us.

Only members in “good standing” are allowed to vote and run for office. Membership dues, twenty-five dollars per family, run on a calendar year so renewal will happen after January. If you have neighbors who want to join, please encourage them to attend.

If you have any concerns or suggestions that you’d like the Executive Committee to consider, please send us an e-mail so that we can address your ideas.

We have a really interesting agenda. It’s important that NTRA have consistent membership and be an active organization for community engagement. It needs a steady membership in order to be effective. So if you want NTRA to make a difference, please come on on Thursday.

This is our first meeting at Town Hall. It’s important that that NTRA be seen as an example of community engagement. We’re looking to develop long-standing relationships and set a positive tone, build trust. These meetings are NOT Town Board meetings. We’re trying to encourage dialogue over time. Our meetings should model what we hope meetings between neighbors should feel like.

We look forward to seeing you!

Sincerely,

The Executive Committee
Ken English, Claudia Bakhtiary, Bahar Eratac

Meet Ken English, Candidate for Tuxedo Town Board

An Invitation

Meet: Ken English, Candidate for Tuxedo Town Board

Where: At his home, 42 Cross Ridge Road, Laurel Ridge – Tuxedo

When: Saturday, October 14th, 4:00pm

Esteemed Tuxedo Voters

I’m Ken English, of Laurel Ridge, Tuxedo, and I’m seeking a seat on the Town Board being vacated by Clifford Loncar. I hope to join the established team led by Supervisor Michael Rost, and pledge to work together to strengthen Tuxedo’s future as a viable family friendly community that’s surrounded by incredible natural resources and wildlife.

Key to preservation of our way of life as well as attracting appropriate business opportunities is maintaining fiscal balance and control. My career has been in public service, working in education at the New York Public Library as Associate Director, managing annual budgets of over $6,000,000 and leading a team of 120 employees. Locally, I’m a board member of the Northern Tuxedo Residents Association, a group committed to building community and responding to neighbors concerns. I’m an active volunteer with the NY/NJ Trail Conference, helping to maintain trails and promoting the organization most Saturday mornings at the Tuxedo Farmer’s Market.

For more than a decade I have frequently attended town board meetings and have developed a deep appreciation for the community service our local leaders provide. We are in the midst of dramatic expansion with the Tuxedo Farms project for residential and commercial development that will also be a key factor in the future of the Tuxedo School District and its current 250 students. For those who live in northern Tuxedo, our Monroe – Woodbury School District is facing a redistricting implementation intended to separate it from the pending town of Palm Tree and to protect it from the bloc-vote threat of the Satmar community. I’ve voiced concern that although northern Tuxedo residents pay substantial school taxes we are not eligible to vote on a proposed referendum for redrawing the Monroe town and the M/W school boundaries.
Another concern, the Pilgrim Petroleum Pipelines route would run along Route 17 in Tuxedo, passing through private and town properties as well as through Tuxedo Park.

Tuxedo is a small town spread out across fifty square miles and is made up of distinct neighborhoods with unique issues. It’s my goal to learn more about my neighbors concerns, seek common ground and work with the Town Board to move things forward. I welcome input and questions and hope to hear from you. I can be reached at TuxedoEnglish@gmail.com

I hope you can come to my home next Saturday, October 14th at 4:00pm, and meet with me, my wife Lynn, and some of your concerned neighbors. Donations in support of this campaign will gladly be accepted. Thanks!

Ken English
