Rockland Sierra Club’s next meeting will feature a presentation by Geoff Welch of the Ramapo River Committee on the Proposed Pilgrim Crude Oil & Fuel Pipelines vs. the Ramapo River Watershed. The pipelines are proposed to run close to the Ramapo River, a major source of Rockland’s water supply, and to be buried under wetlands in Harriman State Park.
Join us at the Suffern Public Library on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at 7:00pm for the presentation.
The Suffern Free Library is located at 210 Lafayette Ave, Suffern, NY 10901. Click here for its location.
The meeting will also feature an update on the PSC’s December 17 decision on Suez’s desalination proposal. The PSC ordered the company to abandon desalination. What does that mean? Where does it leave us? In short, what did we get with this decision and what did we NOT get?
The desalination update will be followed by Geoff’s presentation about the Pilgrim Pipelines, a major threat to our water supply. The pipelines would also take us in the wrong direction on climate change. Post Paris-accords, we need to be moving rapidly to renewable energy, not constructing new fossil fuel supply lines.
Come and find out more about how you can get involved in the new year!
